5 Heart Health Tips for Aging Confidently

5 Heart Health Tips for Aging Confidently

Cardiovascular health is key to feeling your best as you age. Growing older may cause changes in your heart and may lead to an increased risk for heart disease, according to the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The great news is that a few basic lifestyle changes can make a difference. Try these five tips to support a healthy heart at any age:

Move every day

Stay active by adding fun activities such as walking, bowling, and gardening to your routine. Aim for at least 150 minutes of exercise each week.

Eat a heart-healthy diet

Choose healthy foods that are low in saturated fats, added sugars, and salt. A diet packed with plenty of veggies, fruits, and whole grains is best.

You can also ask your doctor if adding a nutritional supplement to your diet is right for you. Try Nature's Bounty® Fish Oil 1200 mg softgels, which contain Omega-3 fatty acids to help support and maintain the health of your cardiovascular system.* Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. See supplement facts for omega-3 content.

Stress less

Are your stress levels higher than you’d like? Strategies such as meditation, getting more exercise, talking it out with a friend, and starting a stress management program can help you cope with life’s challenges.

Quit smoking

Smoking causes damage to your artery walls, among other health concerns. The bright side is that giving up smoking can reduce your risk of heart disease over time—even if you quit later in life!

Manage your health

Follow your doctor’s advice to keep conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes under control. Be sure to ask your doctor before making any lifestyle changes, such as starting a new diet or exercise routine.

We hope these heart health tips encourage you to build habits that benefit your cardiovascular system and overall wellness—so you can live your best life at any age!
